Matt Molloy Consulting Ltd (MMC) is an environmental and public health consultancy based in Nelson, but servicing the top of the South Island, New Zealand and the Pacific.

Director Matt Molloy brings over 10 years’ consulting experience, and over 25 years’ work in drinking water compliance and public health to his work. His experience as an expert witness and public speaker means Matt has the ability to relay complex, technical information in an easily understandable way. His wide expertise, combined with years of practical experience, makes him an accessible & relatable resource for anyone requiring drinking water compliance services.

Public Service Work

  • Facilitated numerous workshops & presentations in New Zealand and the Pacific.
  • Provision of expert public health evidence at resource consent hearings including a number of high-profile public and private resource consents.
  • Advisor on applications with respect to public health, waste disposal & drinking water
  • Independent water sampling after aerial 1080 operations and provided 1080 and bacteriological sampling for the Department of Conservation
  • Marine biosecurity response and engagement services to the top of the South Island for the Lawless Edge
  • 2019/20 undertook an investigation and report into the groundwater quality of the Motueka/Riwaka aquifer on behalf of the Tasman District Council (TDC). The report is published on their website.
  • Development of Water Safety Plans for councils and communities. Most of these contracts also have a drinking water compliance component as well.

  • Training and audit activities throughout the pacific

    Drafting the Cook Island Drinking Water Standards
  • Review & assessment of the proposal to UV disinfect the Rarotonga water supply

    Assisting in the the mainstreaming of Water Safety Plans in Pacific countries including Samoa, Cook Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Fiji and Niue

Havelock North Campylobacter outbreak

  • Contracted by the Ministry of Health and the Hawkes Bay District Health Board to provide Drinking Water Assessor (DWA) services and assist the government inquiry
  • Responsible for the assessment of safety and provision of the technical report on filtration and UV disinfection to
    the government inquiry panel on the Havelock North water supply.
